In 2018 the genesis of Sycamore BioPharma (SBP) occurred in the Botanical Drug Discovery Building at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston between founders Tyler Stone and Dr. Mark Hamann. This meeting came to pass at the urging of the SC Dept. of Agriculture as both Mr. Stone and Dr. Hamann had expressed interest in supporting the state’s nascent but growing hemp industry. In the spring of 2020, SBP opened its doors in West Columbia SC as a fully operational cGMP extraction facility and has grown to be a leading producer of a full line of medical-grade CBD products utilizing Supercritical CO2 extraction and wiped-film distillation technologies.
Dr. Hamann serves as the Charles and Carol Cooper/Smart State Endowed Chair of Drug Discovery, Biomedical Sciences, and Public Health at the MUSC Colleges of Pharmacy and Medicine. Our collaboration with the Medical University of South Carolina and Dr. Hamann has allowed SBP to develop a product line that is unique in both its quality, potency, and efficacy; while adhering to the highest industry standards for the extraction, processing, distillation, and purification of plant-derived products.
In March of 2022, Paula Dezzutti (Pixie) joined the SBP team in the role of CEO, bringing with her a wealth of experience in product and brand development from her tenure as CEO of Local Choice Spirits, Striped Pig Distillery, and Skirt Magazine. One of her passions is the improvement of women's health and sexual wellness; an area of development that SBP plans to explore in the near future with products dedicated to that focus.
Pixie’s addition has allowed Mr. Stone to concentrate more fully on product research and development leading up to the launch of the new EMBRACED CBD-Charged delivery system. Under Pixie and Tyler’s leadership, and supported by a talented and diverse SBP team, the EMBRACED™ collection is set to revolutionize the topical delivery of CBD and other active botanical ingredients.
Technology-Driven Wellness
New technologies are central to the company’s vision of developing innovative delivery methods for active, botanically-based ingredients. Driven by the success of our Aligned Full-Spectrum CBD topicals, we partnered with a specialized textile chemistry company to create a dynamic, wearable delivery system as the foundation for our EMBRACED™ CBD-charged product line.
